"What I Wish Most Parents Knew"

A gentle reflection on the quiet moments that shape a child's heart.

Children don't ask for everything grand,
They only ask us to understand.

I wrote this poem after a session with a parent who looked "successful" from the outside — but felt completely disconnected on the inside.

They'll forget the gifts wrapped up with a bow,
But they'll remember the moments we chose to slow.
They'll forget the words, forget the advice,
But they'll remember being heard, and being held tight.

As a parenting coach, here's what I've learned:

Kids don't remember the perfect birthday party. They remember whether you sat on the floor with them afterward.

They don't remember the lecture about their grades. They remember whether you asked how they felt about it.

They don't need us to fix every problem.
They need us to be a safe place to bring the problem to.

So speak a little softer, and listen a little long,
Judge a little less, and love a little strong.

Because children borrow our strength for a while,
Before they find their own kind of smile.

They grow where they're understood, not where they're told.
They open up in safety, not silence or cold.

One day they'll grow up and walk their own way.
But the love we gave them is here to stay.

Relationships shape lives — simple, not strange.

Every Reflection begins a conversation.

Every conversation has the power to transform a relationship.

A meaningful shift doesn't begin with having all the answers.
It begins with the willingness to begin one unhurried conversation.
